Johannesburg, June 4, 2025 – Peakpoint Advisory successfully assisted a medium-sized mining enterprise located in the Northern Cape Province to fully complete the production suspension and rectification order issued by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) of South Africa in April 2025 under Section 54 of the Mine Health and Safety Act, and resume legal and compliant production.
This directive covers multiple rectification requirements including the operation of control systems, electrical equipment standards, improvement of ventilation environments, and standardization of employee operation procedures. As an enterprise consultant, Peakpoint Advisory immediately organized compliance audits, risk assessments and rectification plans since the suspension notice was issued, and coordinated the entire implementation process to ensure that the project met the standards quickly and efficiently.
The highlights of the rectification include:
- Control system resumed operation: An all-weather monitoring and alarm system was installed, significantly enhancing on-site management capabilities;
- Implementation of standardized operation procedures: Institutionalize the operation procedures for key positions and complete the promotion and signing by all staff.
- Electrical system compliance rectification completed: Electrical components that did not meet the SANS standard were replaced and certified by a third-party engineer;
- The ventilation system has been significantly improved: A new industrial exhaust system has been installed, enhancing air quality and the safety of the working environment.
- 100% employee training coverage: Personnel in all positions have completed re-training on risk awareness, emergency response and safe behavior.
After the rectification was completed, DMRE dispatched officials to conduct a comprehensive review and officially approved the resumption of operation of the mine in May 2025. This project had a tight cycle and strict standards. However, under the full-process technical guidance of Peakpoint Advisory, the client successfully avoided the risk of long-term production suspension and the cost of compliance penalties.
